Bar (former Ship Inn), Westcott Place
The new landlord in 2006
said, "One of the things we have been hearing is
that the pub is haunted by six ghosts. We haven't
seen anything yet, but there are many stories, and
we are trying to find out more about the history of
the place."

Arts
Centre, Devizes Road
A lady wearing brown has
been seen in the gallery bar, on the stairs and
actually in the seats towards the rear of the
auditorium. She is apparently there one moment and
gone the next. Staff have affectionately named her
'Mrs B'.

Old Cinema, Town Centre
(now Savoy pub)
Several stories emerged
a few years after the cinema closure, including an
apparition sighting, unusual photographs being taken
and footsteps heard by members of staff.
Unsubstantiated rumours persist of a continued
haunting presence at the Savoy pub that now occupies
the building.

The Cricketers Arms,
Railway Village
Customers have reported
a glass shaking and falling off the shelf.
There are also reports of unusual noises and doors
opening of their own accord.

PSI investigated the
Clifton in March 20051.
During the 1970s the pub
experienced "some fairly dramatic poltergeist
activity"2
Historically, the pub is
said to be haunted by monks.

Street
In the 1960s a woman who
lived on Deacon Street, Swindon, is said to have met
an old woman continually standing there who said she
was waiting for her dead son, killed in a
motor-cycle accident.

A Dental Surgery
Staff have reported
seeing a little girl wondering around the waiting
room after hours. The location of the surgery will
not be disclosed.

Road
In the late 1980s the
Swindon Advertiser investigated a home with unusual
odours and cold spots; they believe they uncovered
the identity of the 'ghost'.

Lawn Woods, Old Town
In Lawn Wood a white
lady - allegedly the spirit of Lady Goddard - was
seen to stalk soldiers based at the old Goddard
family House during the Second World War.

Railway Village
Nightclub staff have
reported instances of shadows and moving objects in
the club.

Road Baths, Town Centre
Due to be investigated

Several ghosts
reportedly wander the tiled corridors, the most
notable called 'Arthur' who moves papers around and
is heard walking around at night. The Baths
were investigated in 2007 by
SWPG.

In 1970 the last
landlord said,
"once I woke up and saw this little kid standing on
the pillow. And my wife has got up in the middle of
the night, because she has heard our children on the
landing but when she looked out of our bedroom there
was nothing."

An Office Building,
Newport Street
Former staff have
reported anomalous footsteps and opening doors.
Apparently the office is frequently empty as
businesses do not stay there for long.

Rumours of hauntings
include the Outlet Centre, STEAM museum, English
Heritage buildings and car parks, and the old
Pattern Store bar.

The Planks, Old Town
The sounds of crashing
and smashing were heard on the return of a driver
late at night - when the doors were opened, there
was no visible damage. As the doors were closed, the
violent noises resumed, so the police were called.
Although a face was seen in an upper window, on
searching the building no one could be found.

Former
Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), Okus
Many strange rumours
have been circulated by the former staff of PMH for
a number of years. One such tale, in a
geriatric ward, was of an old Scottish patient who
threatened he would haunt them. The old lady
who occupied the room after him was apparently heard
to shout, "will you get that Scottish git out of
this room!", about a man apparently sat in a chair.

Quarry Road, Old Town
In 1977 a widower saw
words appearing - and then disappearing - on his
wall at home. He believed contact was being
attempted from 'beyond'.

Wyvern Theatre, Town Centre
PSI
investigated the
Wyvern in July 2005.
Staff reports include
the lift working of its own accord, people being
shaken awake, a 'black or shadowy figure' in the
auditorium and the sounds of running and up and down
staircases.

Victoria Hospital, Okus
A legend circulated
locally about Victoria Hospital tells of a Sister -
some years ago - who tried to get through the
theatre but found her way blocked by a
soldier. Finding a different way around,
apparently the Sister found that had she taken the
original route something would have fallen on top of
her.
